Carmina Burana is the Latin for "Songs from Beuern," a group of poems found at the monastery, Benediktbeuern in Bavaria. The poems were written in around 1200 by a group of monks and clergy and are mostly bawdy and satirical. Carl Orff set 24 of the poems to music in 1938, and the work has become a standard in the choral repertoire.

One of the most popular choral works ever composed, Orff's spectacular Carmina Burana is packed full of variety and vitality. This work deals with fate, drinking, and love - it is full of the essence of humanity. Masterworks was joined by special guests the Hillsdale High School Chamber Singers and the Ragazzi Boys Chorus in singing this dazzling setting of the irreverent medieval poems called Carmina Burana.

Originally performed Saturday, March 22, 2014 and Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Hillsdale High School Main Theater in San Mateo.
